IBM UnifiedPOS for Windows is IBM’s implementation of the industry-standard Unified Point of Service (UPOS) specification for Microsoft Windows. It delivers OPOS control objects and service objects that allow POS applications to communicate consistently with retail peripherals—such as receipt printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers, customer displays, magnetic stripe readers, and scales—regardless of device model or connection type. By abstracting device differences behind a common API, it shortens integration time, simplifies deployment, and helps retailers manage heterogeneous hardware fleets across stores.

Key features:

  • UPOS-compliant OPOS interface for Windows
  • Broad coverage for IBM and other UPOS-compatible peripherals
  • Configuration utilities for defining logical device names and connection parameters
  • Diagnostic and trace tools to speed setup and support
  • Sample code and documentation for faster development
  • Support for USB, serial, and network-attached peripherals
  • 32-bit and 64-bit application support

Typical uses:

  • Building or modernizing Windows-based POS, self-checkout, and kiosk solutions
  • Standardizing device access across multiple locations and hardware generations
